Topic: Prafulla Ranjan Das

Son of Bhuban Ranjan Das–Prafulla Ranjan was born in Dacca in 1881. Younger brother of Deshabandhu Chittaranjan Das he started his professional career as a Barrister in Calcutta High Court in 1906. When the High Court at Patna was inaugurated in 1917, P.R.–as he was fondly called, moved to Patna and settled down to become a tap luminary–wellknown for large practice and exceptional legal-acumen.

Like Deshabandhu, he was also devoted to literature, as a poet, writing verse in English. He, also contributed Bengali poems, in the ‘Narayani’–a  Bengali monthly edited by Chittaranjan. ‘Moth and the Star’–a book of poems in
English by Prafula Ranjan, earned for him high praise as a poet of distinction.

Besides his preocupation and busy schedule in his own literary or legal fields, he was also associated with social, cultural and sports organisations like the All India Civil-Liberties Union; Patna Bengali Club or All India Lawn Tennis Association in the capacity of President. He died in 1963.
